Despite the recent regulatory approval of a new blood-pool contrast agent for use with magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) of aorto-iliac occlusive disease, radiologists continue to use unapproved extracellular contrast agents. Blood-pool contrast agents are likely to play a greater role in medical imaging and are being evaluated for use in a variety of conditions, including assessment of tumor type in oncology patients. Wider adoption and implementation of blood-pool contrast-enhanced MRA can substantially improve patient care and clinical outcomes.
This educational program will enhance radiologists’ awareness of the latest technological advancements in the area of contrast agents for use with MRA. It will clarify issues surrounding appropriate use, and provide radiologists with a keen understanding of the clinical applications for MRA evaluation of a variety of atherosclerotic diseases and tumor types. Radiologists will also become more familiar with specific equipment set-ups to optimize imaging requirements, and will be better able to implement this important technology in their practice.
